Grocery unit-price comparer

The bigger package is usually — not always — the better deal, and shelf tags don't always use the same unit. Enter the price and size of up to three items and this converts them to one unit so the cheapest one is obvious.

How the math works

  • Weights convert to ounces (1 lb = 16 oz, 1 kg = 35.274 oz), liquids to fluid ounces (1 liter = 33.814 fl oz, 1 gallon = 128 fl oz), and counts to price per item.
  • Only like can be compared with like: ounces of weight and fluid ounces of liquid are different measurements.
  • A lower unit price only saves money if you'll finish the bigger package before it spoils.
